Especially for Animal Lovers- Homer's Odyssey

I read Homer's Odyssey a while ago. No, not the Greek poem. This Homer and his odyssey:

Shortly after my husband and I adopted our little blind kitten and his sister, our veterinarian mentioned this book. I bought it immediately and could hardly put it down.
It begins with a phone call to Gwen Cooper asking if she'd adopt Homer, a little blind kitten. It was love at first sight! Homer quickly endeared himself to virtually everyone who met him. Gwen writes of his adventures scaling bookcases and scaring off an intruder in the middle of the night, possibly saving Gwen's life. And it tells of Homer surviving 9/11 and Gwen's quest to get back to her apartment the next day to see if her cats had survived.  It is a heartwarming story of love and loyalty that had me laughing and crying.
Homer is now about 15 years old and living with Gwen and her husband in New York City. You can read more about him and see pictures and videos on Gwen's blog. Just click {HERE}.
I hope you enjoy reading about Homer and his inspiring life!

As I said, my husband and I adopted a blind kitten. He's totally amazing! The first questions people ask are "Can he find his food?" and "Does he get around the house okay?" The answers are YES, and YES! There are times when I'm sure you wouldn't be able to tell he was blind if you couldn't see his face. Having a blind cat really isn't all that different from having a sighted cat. If you're thinking of adopting a blind cat, the Blind Cat Rescue and Sanctuary has some good articles posted on their website. This wonderful organization gives blind cats a forever home. They are a non-profit and welcome donations. You can see pictures of their cats and read about their odysseys {HERE}.

From my kitty to you and your furry friends, HAPPY READING!

  1. Thank you for the wonderful recommendation. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I enjoyed it so much I purchased it as a Christmas gift for my co-teacher who is also a big cat lover.
