Orphan Train Series

Hi! I’ve been reading the Orphan Train series by Al & Joanna Lacy. I didn’t know that orphans were loaded on trains and taken west to find homes in the 1800s. The orphanages were overcrowded and lots of children lived in colonies on the streets. A man named Charles Loring Brace would rescue these street children and put them on trains to be taken west in hopes of finding a home. Over 250,000 children were removed from vice-ridden urban areas to farm families west all the way to California. Foster parents were carefully screened and met with the children in the train station to become acquainted. Al & Joanna Lacy teach history while telling a marvelous story! Try one today! J
